What is IEMT?

Integral Eye Movement Therapy is a brief change model that allows clients to dissociate from disturbing memories, address identity issues and reduce the intensity of negative emotions. It asks the question: How did the person learn to feel this way?

Moving our eyes in certain ways appears to link to the part of the brain that stores our memories and emotions. This can lead to rapid release and relief.

It is a content free method of working. Although the client accesses past memories, any details of these are not disclosed. In this respect, the therapist remains detached from the client’s story.

IEMT can work quickly and effectively on problems that clients have had for many years. The process is much quicker than EMDR (another eye movement therapy) and generally takes only two sessions, which, ideally, are held a week apart.
